Join South Sands Hotel on Thursday 1st of March for a celebration of arguably the town's best local meat – the Salcombe Crab - with hotel friends and crab experts FAVIS of Salcombe.
At 'Cracking Salcombe' you'll enjoy a menu of carefully curated crab dishes created by executive chef Allister Bishop and his team, paired with the finest local wine sourced by Bibendum. The event is set to be a relaxed, informal evening in South Sands' beachside restaurant, with no set tables, allowing guests the freedom to mingle and meet other crab lovers.
Hosted by South Sands and FAVIS of Salcombe, the area's finest fishermen, guests will receive a welcome 'Cracking Salcombe' - a Salcombe Gin cocktail with crab taster on arrival. FAVIS of Salcombe Crab will then perform an informative crab cracking demo, where guests will be encouraged to ask questions and get involved!
Crab canapés, 'manapés' and bowl food will be served through the evening with matching drinks, all created and prepared by Allister Bishop and his culinary team. Following on from South Sands' successful involvement during last year's Salcombe Crab Festival, the two businesses wanted to celebrate the start of the crab season ahead of the ever-popular event which this year takes place on Sunday 6th May.
The South Sands Restaurant shuttle service will be providing a complimentary pick up and drop off back to Salcombe, Marlborough and Kingsbridge, which must be booked in advance. Cracking Salcombe starts at 6pm and finishes at 9pm, and booking is essential.
Tickets cost £45 and can be booked by calling the hotel on 01548 845900.

“It's got to be the best seaside spot in Britain. South Sands snuggles right up to the beach of the same name, and at high tide, the waves slop almost up to the fabulous wraparound terrace – a fine spot for dinner when it's warm, and a fabulous one for breakfast with the sun rising over the low hills across the estuary. The chef, Allister Bishop, produces an ambitious menu that's big on local ingredients, some foraged – fish crab, sea lettuce, purslane. The 22 rooms are neutral in décor, but eminently comfy: it's all about the views over the sumptuous, boat-filled waterway. So splash out, get a room at the front, then sit back and watch the traffic.” Sunday Times Ultimate 100 British Hotels, October 2016
