HUKA LODGE CHOSEN IN

ANDREW HARPER'S TOP 20 HIDEAWAYS IN THE WORLD

Huka Lodge has been chosen as one of Andrew Harper's Top 20 Hideaways in the World.

Andrew Harper's small team of editors travel around the world annually to uncover its most distinctive hotels, constantly updating its 1,000 recommended properties. However, it's hideaways in particular, those tranquil hotels of 50 rooms or fewer, that form the heart of their philosophy.

Set to welcome its half-millionth guest, since being founded over 90 years ago as a fishing camp on the banks of the stunning Waikato River, Huka Lodge perfectly embodies the criteria of exceptional character, commitment to classic hospitality, and offering a sanctuary with a profound sense of place.

Andrew Harper describes it as “the original Super Lodge: New Zealand has a handful of so-called Super Lodges, resorts of fathomless indulgence where helicopter is the standard way to get around, but Huka is the Grande Dame — the place where it all began.”

“A European-style country house hotel, Huka Lodge is set along the willow-draped banks of the Waikato River near dramatic Huka Falls on New Zealand's North Island. The 21 peaked-roof guest accommodations dot the grounds in a series of stylish duplex cottages that feature riverside verandas and skylit baths. Dining venues include a formal space decorated with Scottish tartan fabrics, a trophy room and a vaulted wine cellar. Huka Lodge also offers exceptional trout fishing”.

“Huka still draws anglers from around the world, but its idyllic riverside setting appeals to just about anyone, including the queen of England, as well as international A-list celebrities.”

In a further tribute to The Huka Retreats, Huka Lodge's sister property Grande Provence, the beautiful heritage wine estate that sits in the foothills of the Franschhoek Valley, was also named in the Top 100 of the Andrew Harper's Hideaways.

Huka Lodge, New Zealand and sister properties Dolphin Island, Fiji and Grande Provence Estate, South Africa comprise The Huka Retreats, all sharing a passionate commitment to providing extraordinary hospitality experiences for their guests.
