Grand Hotel Tremezzo, Lake Como, Reveals New L'escale Trattoria & Wine Bar, and Its Newest Luxury Venetian Lancia Boat Available for Private Tours

Grand Hotel Tremezzo

The magnificent Grand Hotel Tremezzo, on the shores of Italy's Lake Como, is delighted to announce the new design and concept of its restaurant L'Escale Trattoria & Wine Bar.

Following a complete renovation this past northern winter, the restaurant has re-opened as the new L'Escale – a modern concept of a traditional Italian trattoria – led by talented Chef Martin Vitaloni. The space encompasses a charming terrace overlooking Lake Como in addition to a romantic garden setting for alfresco dining, or the cosier cantina room, with bare brick walls carved into the rock alongside elegant modern details that decorate the hotel's more informal restaurant and vast cellar of Italian wines.

The Grand Hotel Tremezzo – at 107 years old, an authentic Art Nouveau palace – has a glorious history of luxury, opulence and grandeur. From Hollywood stars of the golden age and today to influential and elite European visitors, the modern Italian cuisine on offer at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo has been tempting guests for decades.

The hotel welcomes leading Italian chef Martin Vitaloni to L'Escale. He has helped to transform the former fondue restaurant into a modern Italian trattoria with a cellar housing more than 1400 bottles of select Italian wines.

No stranger to fine-dining establishments, Martin has worked in Milan, Rome and Florence, and with the prestigious Relais & Châteaux stable as well as within the kitchens of Michelin Star restaurants such as Seta, Mandarin Oriental, Milan, under Antiono Guida. He has also worked with other eminent chefs such as Elio Sironi, Moreno Cedroni and Emanuele Scarello. Martin has finely tuned artistic and managerial skills, and over the years has honed a kitchen philosophy that includes working with only the finest quality and most authentic ingredients.

L'Escale's new menu is a celebration of the best food and wine Italy has to offer, traversing the country's regions for inspiration, from north to south. Dishes include Soft veal with tuna vellutata sauce; Pappa al pomodoro ravioli and red prawns; Cacio cheese and black pepper risotto; and Monkfish ossobuco, green peas and candied lemon, to name a few. The dessert menu offers classic Italian delights such as Tiramisu and handmade gelati as well as a selection of local cheeses. Smaller bites include Italian cold cuts such as Prosciutto crudo di cinta senese from Toscana, and Culatello di zibello from Emilia Romagna, served with handmade toast, mustards and olive oil.

Still served at L'Escale, also, are the popular fondues – Bourguignonne (beef) or Fish such as broth-poached salmon – accompanied by a selection of gourmet sauces and salts from around the world to enhance the flavours.

Guests of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo are welcome to book private cooking lessons with chef Martin Vitaloni in L'Escale's beautifully refurbished kitchen. And, with an impressive cellar that features Italian wines from all over the country – including more than 600 bottles of white and sparkling and 800 bottles of red wine – guests are also invited to enjoy wine tasting with L'Escale's resident sommelier-oenologist.

The Grand Hotel Tremezzo is also pleased to announce its newest acquisition, a Venetian Lancia boat, which has been named Batt in honour of hotel owner and CEO Valentina de Santis's beloved grandfather, for whom Batt was an affectionate nickname. The new boat is at guests' disposal for exclusive and enchanting private tours of Lake Como.
