Cornwall's historic Trelowarren estate takes centre stage in July as internationally renowned theatre company WildWorks bring their magical production Wolf's Child to the ancient woodland, lawns and battlements.
This fairy tale for adults and brave children (aged 11+) brings WildWorks back to their roots with their first show in Cornwall for more than a decade. Wolf's Child, which received rave reviews nationally, is a “promenade production” following the action though the woods and grounds at Trelowarren - including areas that are not usually open to the public.
“We are so excited to be hosting WildWorks and this amazing production,” say Ferrers Vyvyan whose family have been guardians of the estate for 600 years. “We've been working with the Company over many months to make sure the action moves between the woods and old buildings in a way which enhances the light and darkness of the Wolf's Child story.
“We also want everyone who ventures to Trelowarren for the production to know they can eat fantastic food here in the New Yard before the show begins - or make a full break of it and stay in these lovely surroundings.”
The roving audience can bolster their pre-show bellies with a set feast at the estate's New Yard Restaurant, which showcases the best that Trelowarren's local seas and countryside can offer. The stable yard will also be home to the Wolf Bar and Trelowarren's wood fired pizza shop and food van.
Longer distance travellers to the show can really immerse themselves in the peace and tranquillity of the 1000 acre estate: a special two night break for two people in one of Trelowarren's luxury cottages is £545 and includes the pre-theatre dinner and two 30 minute spa treatments in the Walled Garden Spa.

Wolf's Child itself tells the tale of 'Mother' who protects her girls from the dangers of the wild. When a wolf attack leaves her injured she sends her most trusted girl into the woods in her place. Here the girl discovers darkness, love, terror and freedom.
WildWorks, famed for telling beautiful and moving stories in unusual ways, are proud to be bringing this story home and honouring the vision of the company's founder, Artistic Director Bill Mitchell, who died on Good Friday 2017.
In March this year Bill said, “I love simple magic in real places and Trelowarren gives us the perfect surroundings to tell this beautiful and moving tale. It's a story close to our hearts – one that explores the very essence of being human."
Emma Hogg, General Manager at WildWorks says, "Bill was the inspiration behind WildWorks. Under his guidance he shaped a team of likeminded people set on creating landscape theatre, working with communities, their stories and their environments. He was adamant that the work should continue, and it will. Bill had been heavily involved in the current slate of projects including this July's production of Wolf's Child which he had reimagined for Trelowarren."
Before his death, Bill Mitchell requested that Kyla Goodey be handed the baton of Show Director for Wolf's Child. Kyla, who performed in the original production of Wolf's Child in 2015 is actor, director and writer based in Cornwall. Her acting roles include 946 Adolphus Tips, Tregeagle and Don Quixote for Kneehigh and her director/producer credits include A Great Night Out and The Yule Tide Arc-Ive for WildWorks.

TRELOWARREN
Trelowarren's New Yard Restaurant is among the estate's “green” and luxurious facilities which include its famous eco-holiday homes, a twenty-metre pebble-lined ozone pool, the Walled Garden Spa and state-of-the-art gym – heating and warm water for which are all provided by a 350 kWh biomass Binda boiler which itself burns coppiced and waste wood from the surrounding land.
The history of Trelowarren and the Vyvyan family goes back to 1427, but the story from 1945 - when the widowed Lady Vyvyan writing to Daphne du Maurier described everything at Trelowarren after war time requisition as 'death-duties, dust and ruin' - to the present day has been one of re-birth, renewal and restoration.
Daphne du Maurier's imagination was caught by the romance of Trelowarren when she first visited in 1930 and she described it in her diary as, 'The most beautiful place imaginable.' Throughout her visit 'a sense of freedom and delight prevailed' and the beauty and peace of the house made such an impression that she used it as the inspiration for Navron house in “Frenchman's Creek”.
