Either through expansion to an existing project or the launch of entirely new concepts altogether, new developments for 2017 are seeing the experiential 'staycation' market become even more sophisticated. Co-Founder Alex Wilson explains:

"We've seen quite a big trend so far this year in property owners adding more weird and wonderful places to stay to their existing sites through expansion and diversification. Often they have seen their quirkiest units filling up so quickly due to popularity and have reacted by adding more.  Some new examples recently added for this year are the new Bay Treehouse in Somerset, the Roundhouse at East Thorne Yurts, A Secret Garden in Kent, Geodomes at Koa Tree Camp and Elmey Nature Reserve's latest addition The Ferryman's. The latter has a unique glass ended wall to make the most of those unbeatable sunrise views over the only nature reserve in the UK you can actually stay in!"

As for new projects, there is also no shortage of arrivals in 2017 that promise to innovate and break ground in what they offer, and the key theme running through them seems to be differentiation.

"We are excited by what we have to announce to our followers this year, from brand new space-age architectural hideouts, to tentsile tree camping, a rubber-clad Moroccan-inspired coastal retreat, luxury converted Dutch freight barge and many more."

Host Unusual are currently running a competition throughout April to win a luxury treehouse stay; treehouses continue to be amongst the most popular quirky accommodation types on the site. The company are also finding new ways to partner on unique projects that fit their brand ethos. The latest example of this is Champing (church glamping) in partnership with the Churches Conservation Trust, where you can spend the night in a beautiful and ancient church!
