Peregrine's new Adventure Cruising range lets travellers 'cruise with a conscience' as each trip is carbon-offset by the company. Passengers can explore little-known towns and villages in some of the world's hottest travel destinations, including Croatia, Cuba, Iceland, Portugal, Panama, and the Greek Islands.
The Adventure Cruising itineraries stay true to Peregrine's local, immersive style of travel. The trips offer passengers a unique cruise experience on small-ships, which carry no more than 50 passengers and allow them to visit small ports that the big ships can't reach and support locals along the way.
Peregrine Adventures' Managing Director James Thornton said “Traditional cruises do a great job of catering for those travellers who enjoy an all-inclusive beach resort, but tourism is changing. There is no real option on water for our travellers who prefer small hotels and Airbnb-style local authenticity, and would never think of themselves as traditional cruise customers.”
“We're just a start-up in the fast-growing cruise market, but we think it is ripe for disruption because the big companies have not responded quickly enough to demand for genuine local experiences that benefit both travellers and the places and people they visit,” says Thornton.
It's hoped that the carbon-neutral travel company's launch of carbon-offset adventure cruises will start a sea change on sustainability in the multi-billion dollar cruise market.
There are 10 itineraries in Peregrine's Adventure Cruising range and all trips are carbon-offset: Greek Island Cruising (Antiquity to Byzantium), Greece Cruising (Classical Greece), Greek Island Cruising (Jewels of the Cyclades), Dalmatian Coastal Cruising, Cruising in the Seychelles, Adriatic Coastal Cruising, Cruising Iceland, Cruising Spain and Portugal, Cuban Panorama Cruising and The Treasures of Costa Rica & Panama.
From dancing the salsa with locals in Havana -rather than waltzing with the Captain on a giant cruise-liner, to enjoying authentic moussaka in a Greek taverna- instead of hitting the all-you-can-eat buffet on the deck, Peregrine's new Adventure Cruising range lets travellers take in the best of a destination, from a new perspective with the same local experience.
Croatia is incredibly popular right now thanks to the 'Game of Thrones effect' with travellers wanting to get a glimpse of King's Landing for themselves. This trip takes travellers away from the busiest ports to hidden gems and smaller towns. Starting in Dubrovnik, passengers board the Royal Eleganza and go on to Korcula, Badija, Trpani, to explore waterfalls and swim in beautifully clear turquoise waters. Then it's on to visit Opuzen, Mostar, Hvar and Split. The cruise finishes in Sibenik- one place that travellers need to go before it changes – Brad Pitt is rumoured to be buying a holiday home there.
The 8 day trip costs from $2,985 AUD per person and departures commence from 24 July 2017.
Cuban Panorama Cruising (Havana to Cienfuegos)
Passengers board the M/S Panorama and cruise across the Caribbean to discover Cuba's old-world charm on this small-ship adventure cruise. Starting in Havana, passengers can eat at Cuban paladares, see the best of Vinales Region, Maria La Gorda, Isla de la Juventud, Casilda, Trinidad and Cienfuegos, with the trip ending in Havana.
The 8 day trip costs from $3,625 per person and departures commence from 24 December 2016.
Cruising in the Seychelles (Garden of Eden)
From cruising islands both inhabited and uninhabited, exploring mangrove forests and discovering World Heritage nature reserves, this trip offers travellers a unique way to experience the region. Starting in Mahe, passengers board the twin-hulled Pegasus, where it's on to St Anne Island and Curieuse, to observe the 250 Giant Tortoises that call the island home. Then it's on to Cousin Island, Aride Island, Vallee de Mai, before stopping overnight at Moyenne Island where travellers can take advantage of the boat's kayak and snorkelling equipment, swim in picture-perfect settings, and visit quaint island communities. The cruise finishes in Mahe.
The 8 day trip costs from $3,345 per person and departures commence from 7 January 2017.
