Benidorm, Cape Verde and Marrakech are three of the most common misspelt holiday destinations
Atlases and guidebooks will be at the top of the Christmas list as it is revealed adults seeking to book holidays in popular destinations such as Lanzarote, Bulgaria and Croatia are baffled with misspellings such as Lanzorate, Bulgeria and Crotia.
This is according to research from leading online travel agent, Travel Republic, which analysed the keyword searches for popular holiday destinations. Ask Britons to spell Madeira, Kefalonia, Fuerteventura and the research has shown, people will respond with answers which read: Madira, Kefolonia and Forteventura.
Trending destinations, Iceland and Croatia, that have seen a recent surge in visitor arrivals as a result of Game of Thrones fandom* are also commonly misspelled, with people searching for Crotia and Rekjavik, not Reykjavik.
And it seems the popular sun, sea and sand destinations are also misspelled, even Benidorm with the popular ITV series, hasn't helped Brits remember the correct spelling, with many searching for Benedorm.
Cape Verdi, Katmandu and Gibralter are just some of the examples of the top 15 destinations Brits have incorrectly searched for in relation to their next holiday, in research carried out by Travel Republic.
