Sofitel Luang Prabang gives back to the community with a marathon of charitable events.
When the Luang Prabang Half Marathon ends on Sunday, 23 October, the hotel will host the Charity Splash, followed on Monday the 24th by two performances by Japanese quartet Kuricorder and dinner at Governor's Grill – with all funds raised over the two days to be donated to Lao Friends Hospital for Children.
LUANG PRABANG – The tempo here at this tranquil UNESCO World Heritage town will be increased this month as the Luang Prabang Half Marathon is followed by a marathon of fundraising events organized by Sofitel.

Running for Charity
This year's edition of the famous Half-Marathon will take runners past many of Luang Prabang's top attractions from Phousi Hill to the former Royal Palace and Wat Wisunalat, and include three kilometres along the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers. The Charity Splash
Following Luang Prabang Marathon, Sofitel has invited runners and anyone else who is lucky enough to be in town that day to cool down in the hotel's plunge pool and enjoy some succulent barbecue and drinks to the chill-out tunes of the DJ.
The event begins at 1pm – 6pm and the $25.00 entrance fee includes admittance to the pool, the lunch buffet at Governor's Grill, and a welcome homemade punch.

The Kuricorder & Friends - Concert in the garden
Kuricorder will be holding two 45-minute performances in Sofitel Luang Prabang's French botanical garden – part of the group's “Kuricorder & Friends Asia Tour,” a cultural collaboration and exchange project with various artists throughout ASEAN and ART COUNCIL TOKYO. For the Sofitel event, the group will perform with Theater Khaoniew from Vientiane, who will appear for several pieces during the concert with a special repertoire for the occasion.
The performance begins at 6:30pm and a $10 entrance fee includes a Special Governor's Punch Cocktail while a $30 Entrance Fee includes a Special Governor's Punch Cocktail and the Discovery of Laos Dinner.
About the Kuricorder Quartet
Established in 1994, The Kuricorder Quartet is well known to most Japanese youth through the children's program “Pythagora switch” broadcast by NHK Educational TV. Using a variety of instruments, from recorders and melodeons to percussion and ukuleles, the group's intimate and distinctive sound ranges from original compositions to arrangements of western classics, traditional and rock, always with a humorous and heart-warming flavour that has attracted fans and collaborators across generations. The quartet has recorded 100 CDs and performs 100 concerts each year.
About Theatre Khaoniew
Lao theatre group Khaoniew (“sticky rice”) was formed in 2011 and has performed numerous plays and puppet shows with collaborators around the world, appearing in festivals in France, Portugal, Switzerland, Japan, Korea, Singapore, the Philippines, China, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, in addition to their home country.
The Dinner
Overlooking the botanical garden, Governor's Grill – the only steakhouse of its kind in Luang Prabang – makes the most of its sensational setting and ambiance with indoor and al fresco seating and offers a delectable fusion of traditional Lao cuisine with its distinctive spices and flavours and fine western gastronomy. Highlights of the Discovery of Laos menu for this special occasion include:
- Khaiphaen Jeund, Mekong riverweed served with spicy buffalo jam and fresh vegetables & chicken spring rolls with sweet & sour peanut sauce
- Steamed Mekong tilapia in banana leaf, bok choy and seafood sauce
- Chicken curry marinated in coconut milk with tomato & onion or vegetarian curry
- Mak Muang Lao Khao, flambéed mango with Lao whisky & coconut ice cream
