With the British summer looking decidedly gloomy, glamping specialist Campsites.co.uk has picked out deals for three last-minute August short breaks that don't rely on sunny weather.
Animal lookout
For a wild night, stay in a Lookout Lodge at Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire and drift off with a view of the zoo's white rhinos. The experience includes a day entry to Whipsnade, which is the UK's biggest zoo, a sunset tour, two-course dinner and breakfast, and an overnight stay in one of the comfy, well equipped lodges. Prices start from £378 for a family of four staying one night in August. Children must be at least five years old. See Campsites.co.uk (http://www.campsites.co.uk/go/23679)
Craft camping
Coastal Valley is a Newquay camping and glamping site dedicated to arts and crafts. The site holds summer workshops to help families explore untapped talents, with activities including willow weaving, slate painting and fabric printing, and every Tuesday a local chef is brought in to cook freshly caught fish in front of guests. Glamping options include bell tents, with a seven night short break for four available from £595, starting 22 August. Craft courses are extra. Sky high challenge
Camp Katur, close to Ripon in North Yorkshire, offers an exciting mix of glamping and a wide range of family friendly activities, including quad bike trekking along woodland tracks, segway tours, a giant adventure playground and bushcraft. Those with a head for heights can tackle a treetop adventure course, climbing wall and rope bridge, which lead to a sky-high zip wire that flies back down to the ground. Prices start from £720 for a safari tent sleeping four, based on four nights from 21 August. Activities are extra. More details at Campsites.co.uk (http://www.campsites.co.uk/go/20824)
