Ten Things To Do At Terme Beach Resort, Ravenna, Italy

Terme Beach Resort
Terme Beach Resort, located on its own 80 metre stretch of sandy beach overlooking the Adriatic Sea, is a small, independent hotel that provides the perfect base from which to explore Italy's Emilia-Romagna region. Here are top ten activities visitors can enjoy:
  • Swimming, sailing, kayaking, kite & wind surfing
  • Jogging, walking, horse riding
  • Cycling
  • Birdwatching
  • Spa & wellness indulgence
  • Wine tasting
  • Gourmet dining
  • City sightseeing
  • Family friendly adventures
  • The Ravenna Festival

AQUATIC ADVENTURES IN THE ADRIATIC include swimming, sailing, kayaking, kite and wind surfing, deep sea fishing and stand up paddling. Terme Beach Resort can book any or all of these activities, organising equipment hire as well as tuition if required.

LIFE'S A BEACH – Terme Beach Resort provides instant access to 15 continuous kilometres of uninterrupted sandy beach, or 30km if you cover the beach in a round trip, making this the perfect place to go jogging, walking or horse riding.

CYCLING comes in a couple of options. For soft cycling, guests can make use of the hotel's free bike hire to try any number of self guided routes, including 25kms trails which cross rivers, pinewood forests, fishing ports and small towns.

For more athletic cyclists, professional bikes can be hired to cope with steeper, hillier climbs offering breathtaking views from their summits.

SOMETHING TO RUFFLE YOUR FEATHERS – twitchers will appreciate Terme's proximity to Po Delta Park, a fantastic conservation area covering 54,000 hectares. Greater flamingoes, little and giant egrets, curlew, marsh harriers, bee eaters and many more species can be seen in abundance.

The area also hosts the annual International Po Delta Birdwatching Fair which this year takes place from 29th April – 1st May:

HEALING PROPERTIES are contained within the mineral rich natural springs above which Terme Beach Resort is situated. This also goes a long way to explain why  this region is also called Wellness Valley.  Terme's spa and wellness annex, Terme di Punta Marina Spa, offers treatments for both health and cosmetic reasons, with  the indoor swimming pool maintained at a constant 33 degrees.

BE A WINE KNOW – Terme Beach Resort is surrounded by countless vineyards, many of which are small, boutique and privately owned. The hotel can arrange private wine tasting at local cellar doors like Podere la Berta, Cantina Celli and Campo del Sole.

GOURMET DINING comes with the territory, whether it be dining at the hotel's own Marlin beachfront seafood restaurant, to any number of restaurants within Ravenna's ancient city centre including Alexander, a former cinema, and Ca de Ven.

Venturing slightly further afield, there are wonderful hillside restaurants offering wonderful home cooking, like Casina Pontormo in Bertinoro.

RAVISHING RAVENNA & MORE – Within an hour's drive alone there is:

  • Ravenna, resting place of Dante famed for its stunning mosaics including those in the Basilica di San Vitale said to have inspired the artist Gustav Klimt.
  • Rimini, the coastal birthplace of movie director Frederico 'La Dolce Vita' Fellini.
  • Bologna – Italy's food capital.
  • Ferrara – City of the Renaissance.

Venturing slightly further afield but within a two-hour drive, there are, for example, castles to be explored.

FAMILY ADVENTURES – Terme Beach Resort is particularly suited to families. In addition to the on-site facilities and safety of a sandy beach that gradually slopes into the Adriatic, there are countless places to visit including water, adventure, safari and theme parks, and, if timed correctly, children's festivals.

The hotel has six family suites that can comfortably accommodate two adults and two children. Children up to four years of age stay for free, 4-12 year olds stay half price.

WHAT A PERFORMANCE! Last, but by no means least, the Ravenna Festival (13th May – 13th July 2016), is one of Europe's most prestigious and acclaimed performance arts festivals. Staying at Terme Beach Resort gives guests the best of both worlds – beach culture by day, performance culture by night – with the added advantage that the hotel can book guests' tickets in advance:

This year's highlights include Joan Baez, the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
