It's the centennial celebration of the National Park Service in the USA, and to celebrate free admission will be offered to various parks across the country including the State of Oregon's only National Park - Crater Lake National Park.

At 1,943 feet deep, Crater Lake National Park boasts the deepest lake in the United States and one of the ten deepest lakes in the world!  While famous for it's depth, deep blue colour and water clarity one of the biggest draw cards is Phantom Ship, an Island formed by andesite rock that dates back 400,000 years ago.

The Phantom Ship derives its name from its resemblance to a ghost ship, which appears to emerge and disappear in visibility especially in foggy and low-light conditions.

There are good vantage points for viewing Phantom Ship at Crater Lake National Park and one of the best advantage points is by cruise ship.  Volcano Boat Cruises offers tours to learn about the history, geology, and cultural significance of the lake, while viewing the natural beauty of Phantom Ship from the boat.

In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the US National Parks, IMAX will also release a movie set to hit screens in Sydney and Melbourne from February 25, 2016.   Crater Lake National Park will feature in the movie.

Weather permitting, the boat cruises are scheduled to operate daily from June to September.
