The Jacobean manor house forms the perfect setting for exploring the Wye Valley. The Black Mountains appear as a backdrop whilst the River Usk runs at the back of the hotel, both providing perfect walking routes. The mansion house is built on the site of Llangoed Castle. In 1912, Clough Williams-Ellis re-designed it as a country house, retaining the original Jacobean porch.

Wye Valley Walking
Using Llangoed Hall's very own 'Stroll Guide', depart Llangoed Hall and then reach the long distance path that follows the route of the river. Along the path, walkers encounter several fields ideal for picnics. Walkers also pass traditional cottages and later arrive at a metal 'kissing gate'. A narrow suspension bridge soon takes walkers on a long stroll along the stunning river.

Black Mountains
These red sandstone hills combine plenty of grass and rivers and form a natural border with Herefordshire, England. Ideal for both short walks or longer hikes. The Black Mountains surround market towns with many ancient churches and local crafts.

Hay-on-Wye
The famous Hay Festival which brings together writers from across the world to debate takes place each year in this pretty village. This year the Hay International Literary Festival is held between 26th May and 5th June. This book town is a wonderful half day trip throughout the year and is located close to Llangoed Hall and once reached is perfect for a leisurely walk and lunch at Llangoed Hall's sister hotel The Swan at Hay (currently being refurbished).

Royal Welsh Show
Between 18th and 21st July, the Royal Welsh Show will showcase the best of Welsh livestock and the high quality food and drink produced in Wales which over recent years has received much interest. Activities include forestry, horticulture, crafts, countryside sports, a Sports Village and a 12 hour programme of exciting entertainment that continues throughout each of the four days of the event.

Art at Llangoed Hall
So impressive is Sir Bernard Ashley's private collection of art including paintings, drawings and works of fine art that it is in huge demand from many curators seeking to display it in their art galleries. Sir Bernard's personal collection includes magnificent original antiques, sketches by the American-born artist and society wit, James McNeil Whistler and works by Herman Dudley Murphy and Augustus John. Adding interest and character to the hotel, guests at Llangoed can browse the collection at anytime during their stay.

Fashion and Design at Llangoed Hall
Treasured framed photographs of the Ashley family through the years are dotted around the hotel along with iconic design moments such as black and white campaign photographs from the 1970s. These historical memorabilia serve to create both an elegant home-from-home atmosphere and informal exhibition for guests to enjoy at their leisure. Laura Ashley's first ever garment is displayed at Llangoed Hall and one bedroom features original wallpaper and furnishings whilst all are inspired by her early works.

Award-winning Welsh Dining at Llangoed Hall
The AA awarded Llangoed Hall two notable fine dining accolades; 3 AA Rosettes for food and Notable Wine List. In addition, The Good Food Guide awarded Llangoed Hall a Top 50 UK restaurants listing whilst The Sunday Times awarded the hotel Wales's leading dining destination. Head Chef Nick Brodie takes inspiration from the hotel's organic kitchen and uses eggs from three duck houses - Chicken, Duck and Quail. He can often be found in the kitchen gardens.
