Macs Adventure has launched four new self-guided walking and cycling tours in the fiercely independent French island of Corsica. This is a Mediterranean island famous for its wild landscapes, hearty food and delicious wines, so you need to have an adventurous spirit to take it on!

Walking: Corsica in Style, six nights for £995 per person

And

Walking: Corsica: Island of Beauty, six nights from £595 per person

www.macsadventure.com/holiday-1914/corsica-island-of-beauty

These two walking itineraries are the same, but the In-Style holiday includes stays at beautiful four-star hotels and two dinners. Firstly, the Dominique Colonna in Corte – www.dominique-colonna.com: this gem is located adjacent to the clear waters of the Restonica River. The whole hotel has modern design and the outdoor spaces are tree-filled and serene. Secondly, the Abbaye Hotel in Calvi www.hostellerie-abbaye.com/ is just steps away from the marina and was erected within the walls of a Franciscan monastery.

Start your adventure from the Citadel in Corte – a fortress perched on a rocky outcrop - and then walk down into the dramatic Tavignano Gorge, where you will have the opportunity to swim in the clear waters. The itinerary also includes a walk from the Gorge de la Restonica to Lake Melo; a walk from Calvi, a charming port town, to the hill top chapel of Notre Dame de la Serra; a coastal walk along the peninsula to the Revellata Lighthouse and a strenuous hike up mountain Capu di a Veta.

This walking tour is graded easy to moderate. However, a number of options are given on this trip and this grade only applies to the easier walks. For example on Day 3, there is an easier option provided to the Restonica Gorge, which is graded moderate to challenging and Day 6's hike up Capu di a Veta is also moderate to challenging. This is not due to distances, but due to terrain, which can be very rocky and at time challenging to negotiate. If you choose to walk the easy to moderate walks you will need to have a good level of fitness. If you choose the more challenging options, not only will you need an excellent level of fitness, but you will also need to be sure-footed, have a great sense of balance and not be scared of heights. Also for the harder walks hiking poles are recommended.

The price for both trips include accommodation on a B&B basis; transfers; detailed route notes, maps, information packs and back-up support.

Walking: Corsica mountain trails to the sea. Six nights from £680 per person

This moderately rated self-guided tour will suit those who like to walk through contrasting scenery; mountains, river gorges, cliffs, coastlines, lakes and natural pools. You will be walking from the interior of the island to the beautiful coastline experiencing the Scala Santa Regina Gorge; Radule Waterfall; the GR20 Walk; swimming in natural pools and coastal paths. Along the way you'll enjoy warm welcomes in charming hotels and B&B's.

The price includes accommodation on a B&B basis; transfers; luggage transfers: detailed route notes, information pack, maps and back-up support.

Cycling Around the Cape of Corsica, from £655 per person

www.macsadventure.com/holiday-1936/cycling-around-the-cape-of-corsica

Discover the fantastically wild and stunningly beautiful remote Cape of Corsica. Cycle through quaint local villages and charming port towns, all on quiet, minor roads, whilst admiring the constantly remarkable vistas of rugged cliffs, weathered Genoese Towers, and as you approach St Florent, the rolling hills of vineyards.

At one point you can even enjoy views to the Italian islands of Elba and Capraia and, at another, stand in awe when overlooking the black sandy beach at Nonza.

This cycling holiday explores in depth amazing Corsican landscapes and offers the chance to admire incredible vistas all along the route around the Cape of Corsica.

This trip is graded moderate, but with options to choose your total distance of between 136-165 km and daily distances range from 15 to 57 km. Elevation gains and losses in Corsica cannot be avoided and you will need to be prepared to climb. However the distances are fairly short and you have all day. However we do recommend giving yourself plenty of time for your day's ride and if it is hot, to begin early.  It is better to judge how long the ride will take based on elevation gains, rather than by the distance in kilometres only.

On some of the days there are easier options to take, however on Days 4 and 6 there is no option but to climb, therefore you should have a very good level of fitness before embarking on this tour.

The price includes accommodation on a B&B basis; luggage transfers, detailed route notes, information pack and Michelin map and 24/7 back up support. The price does not include flights to Corsica, but you can fly from London Gatwick to Bastia, Corsica for about £165.47 per person return. You will have the option to hire either hybrid bikes, road bikes or electric bikes.
