Melbourne Star Marks Eighteen Months of Memories

Melbourne Star Observation Wheel

There's a lot to celebrate at the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel as the Docklands landmark approaches eighteen months of operations, and gets set to exceed its 500,000 guest milestone over the coming months!

Melburnians, as well as interstate and international visitors, have proven their fondness for the Melbourne attraction with research showing that an overwhelming majority of guests highly recommend the experience to family and friends.

Along with hosting star-studded guests including internationally renowned comedian Kevin Hart, the Melbourne Star has attracted attention through memorable stunts, including the spectacular sight of the 2014 Emirates Melbourne Cup trophy raised high from the roof of one of the Star's airborne cabins in celebration of the iconic Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

The Star's LED lighting show, with tailored light shows for Valentine's Day, World AIDs Day and ANZAC Day, as well as the opening night of Les Miserables and Strictly Ballroom have further delighted crowds each night since opening. The glowing displays involve more than 15 million different light combinations and have been extended until midnight due to popular demand.

The Melbourne Star has not only lit up the skies for eighteen months, but also warmed hearts with more than 100 proposals taking place since opening, and although the Star can't confirm how many said yes - at least one pop-up wedding is known to have taken place in a cabin!

“Melbourne residents and visitors have warmly embraced the Star and we look forward to opening our doors to many more visitors in the months, and years, ahead,” Melbourne Star CEO Chris Kelly said.

The Melbourne Star is open daily from 10:00am to 10:00pm, with last admission at 9.30pm. The Melbourne Star is the first, more complex, solid steel wheel design to be built in the world to this size.

The Melbourne Star is owned by Sanoyas Rides Australia Pty Ltd.
