Travel Writers' Radio show extended just one year after hitting airwaves

The only association in Australia dedicated to the professional interests of food, wine and travel writers has seen such success with its radio show, which launched just 12 months ago, it's being extended to two hours.

The Travel Writers Radio Show, an initiative of the International Food Wine Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA), is hosted by 87.8FM – Melbourne's newest FM radio station.

The show started as a one-hour travel segment and has covered regions from The Black Sea in South Eastern Europe to East Gippsland in Victoria and everything in-between.

It offers information from the best things to do, see, tips and advice to the downright quirky and unusual.

Co-hosted by Peter Watson, who has more than 40 years experience in the travel industry, and is current editor at large at E Global Travel Media, and Graeme Kemlo, who has more than 30 years experience as a journalist and photo journalist, the show also has regular information about great places to eat in Melbourne and a weekly travel news segment.

While only on the airwaves for one year, its success means it will now be extended to two hours including one hour on 'flavours' of travel, which will include beer, cider, wine and food.

Chairman of IFWTWA Australasia and co-host of the radio show Graeme Kemlo says it's been exciting to be able to feature so many talented industry representatives.

“We've spoken to chefs, hoteliers, sommeliers, brewers, distillers, cheese-makers, organic producers, corporate team builders, convention organisers and travel experts with great tips for travellers and news which people can use.

“It's been a really exciting time because there's no other radio show concept like it, we have international and national professional travel and food and wine writers who are telling their stories, in their words and interviewing the best in the business.”

The Travel Writers Radio show runs from 5 – 7pm every Wednesday on 87.8FM across central Melbourne.
