Gourmet Food & Wine Weekends at Bushmans Kloof

Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat

Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat in the Cederberg Mountains is once again the must-visit destination for gourmands and wine connoisseurs alike. A delicious round-up of four Bushmans Kloof's Gourmet Food and Wine Weekends have just been finalized, set to be held on selected dates in June, July and August.

Executive Chef Floris Smith is the man responsible for the award-winning lodge's reputation as the home of authentic Cape cuisine in the Cederberg. Smith will be teaming up with respected South African winemakers from four top wine farms to create inspired culinary creations that perfectly capture the tastes and flavors of the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Gourmet Food and Wine Weekends offer guests an unforgettable wilderness experience along with a gourmet feast celebrating the marriage of world-class cuisine and superb wines. Each will respectively showcase top vintages from Glen Carlou, Bouchard Finlayson, Cederberg Private Cellar and Constantia Uitsig and include special presentations, talks, tastings, nature drives, rock art excursions as well all meals, wine, and children's and lodge activities. Prices start from $220.00 per person per night.

Glen Carlou (May 29 – May 31)
Co-hosting the first food and wine weekend are Executive Chef Floris Smith and winemaker Arco Laarman from Glen Carlou wine estate. Joining forces, they will create an exciting food and wine experience that will linger on the palate. Known for consistently producing quality wines, Glen Carlou is a comparatively young estate that has built an enviable reputation as one of South Africa's leading wine producers. Located in the heart of the sought-after Paarl Valley, it is under the passionate stewardship of Hess Family Estates, a world-renowned international wine group and ardent ambassador to the finer things in life. Since taking over in 2003 they have positioned the estate among the elite South African and New World wine producers.

Bouchard Finlayson (June 26 – June 28)
Guests can look forward to a taste of the very best in food and wine pairing at the Bouchard Finlayson weekend, thanks to the joint gastronomic forces of Executive Chef Floris Smith and renowned winemaker Peter Finlayson, South Africa's “Pinot Pioneer.” Located in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley, Bouchard Finlayson is dedicated to the quality production of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Today, 54 acres of the estate are currently under vine with 50% devoted to the Pinot Noir for which Peter is most acclaimed.

Cederberg Private Cellar (July 24 – July 26)
This refined food and wine event will combine gastronomic pleasures by Executive Chef Floris Smith with a selection of Cederberg's finest vintages. Cederberg Private Cellar is officially known as South Africa's highest winery, with winemaker David Niewoudt sculpting dramatic red and white wines at an altitude of more than 1000m above sea level. A cool continental climate, diverse soil types, unpolluted air and crystal clear waters combine to produce wines of excellent quality.

Constantia Uitsig (August 21 – August 23)
Executive Chef Floris Smith will team up with winemaker Andre Rousseau of Constantia Uitsig to serve a culinary feast of note with each dish perfectly matched with a varietal from this veteran estate. Constantia Uitsig is one of the oldest farms in the picturesque Constantia Valley, and a historic landmark in the valley, the oldest wine-making region in the southern hemisphere. Wines produced here include superb Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillons and red and white Bordeaux blends - all noble cultivars ideally suited to the climate in the valley.
