Garuda Indonesia picks up two accolades at prestigious annual awards

Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia's national carrier, has added two awards to its growing list of accolades after receiving a gold medal for the 'Best First Class White', and bronze  for the 'Best Business Class Fortified/Dessert Wine' at the Business Traveller “Cellars in the Sky” awards 2014 this week.

Hosted at the Hilton Hotel, Paddington, London, the annual awards recognises the best in business and first class wines served by airlines worldwide. Hosted by head judge Charles Metcalfe, co-chairman of the International Wine Challenge, Garuda Indonesia's CEO, Mr Arif Wibowo, collected the gold medal for its 2009 Domaine Marc Morey & Fils white wine, and bronze for its De Bortoli Noble One Botrytis Semillon 2011 dessert wine.

Commenting on the awards, Mr Wibowo, said: “These awards are a credit to the meticulous work Garuda Indonesia's food and beverage service team put into devising drink menus that not only compliment the food, but set the bar at the highest level when it comes to quality of product. Every aspect of the Garuda Indonesia experience is of paramount importance, so to be counted among the world's leading airlines for our hospitality is a fantastic achievement.”

The “Cellars in the Sky” awards come on the back of Garuda recently being awarded with a five-star rating by Skytrax, becoming one of only seven airlines worldwide to have met the strict requirements. This follows the awarding of The World's Best Cabin Staff at the Skytrax World Airline Awards at Farnborough International Airshow 2014 and previous awards in 2013 for The World's Best Economy Class and The World's Best Economy Class Seats.
