X2 River Kwai… Cross to a New Dimension of Luxury by Design

Opened in July 2014, X2 River Kwai is located at the most beautiful stretch of the Kwai Noi River with its spectacular view and backdrop of mountain ranges and blue sky.  Traveling to the resort, one will pass-by rice paddy fields, sugar cane plantations, local temples and villages which are the signature scenery of Kanchanaburi. The resort is located on 2 acres (6 Rai) of prime riverside location with every room offering uninterrupted panoramic river views over the idyllic countryside.

X2 River Kwai consists of 8 rooms, all facing the Kwai Noi River which offers spectacular views and serenity. An additional 18 rooms will be added in phase two which will be announced in 2015.

The resort's facilities include a river view restaurant with an outdoor deck The Bridge Bar & Bistro, library, an infinity riverfront pool with sun lounges and sun beds, bicycles on loan, free wifi, guarded car park and iPads on loan. For guests' safety, CCTVs are installed in all critical areas and there are 24 hour security guards.

The Bridge Bar & Bistro is meant to be a communal living room for all guests.  Guests are encouraged to chill and hangout in the bistro casually with just a cup of coffee or a glass of drink at anytime of the day.  With the concept of “unpretentious luxury”, food will be served in a casual and “rustic” style with a creativeness which brings back the memory of the great home cooking. 

X2 River Kwai's all eight cabins overlook the stunning view of the river with mountains as natural backdrop. The resort portrays an “Industrial Chic” design which can be seen in every corner of the resort. In order to create a sense of place, the architecture of X2 River Kwai takes “light structure” as a formal expression. Light structure can be found throughout Kanchanaburi province such as houses, rafts, and bridges. Steel trusses of factories, mining equipments, and the most renowned landmark, The Bridge over River Kwai, can also be considered as light structure which possesses “slim but strong” philosophy. With triangulated members, this kind of structural system gives us freedom to build things that almost fly in the air to be a part of emptiness. This quality of flying or floating is therefore used to create the place and give a special experience.  LuXe Cabin guests can admire the panoramic view on the Flying Deck that reach out to the vastness of nature while PoolXide Cabin guests rest and soak their feet in a well-crafted infinity pool on their own raft terraces or Floating Deck.

X2 River Kwai is designed with sustainability and eco friendliness as priority with three main concepts of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Reduce:  Basic materials (concrete, artificial wood, OSB board, natural mountain stone, steel, which can be sourced locally) are used in a creative way to create the sense of “unpretentious luxury”.  The OSB and Joint Rubber wood boards (which are planted for commercial usage and recyclable) are used extensively in this project.  Other sustainable materials are color bonded corrugated steel and artificial fiber cement wood for outdoor deck. Energy usage is also greatly reduced by the extensive use of highly efficient insulation materials along walls, roofs and all thermally insulated pipes.  All rooms are equipped with electrical key tag to cut off the electricity when the guest is out of the room.  Another unique feature is the auto cut-off of air conditioner when the glass door stays open for more than 5 minutes.

Reuse:  The resort reuses many of the abandoned industrial materials and turns them into chic industrial decorative. Abandoned steel pipes are turned into outdoor light fittings and indoor clothes rack, unused machinery and old electric motors turn into tables and industrial sculptures, abandoned aluminum strips turn into wall cladding, these are just few examples of our creativeness.

Recycle:  The riverside location of the property also enables us to use river water for all our landscape irrigation.  All human wastes and waste water are properly treated in the septic tank buried underground and all rubbish is separated into the different recycling categories.
