TV fans captivated by Sky Atlantic's sensational new crime drama Fortitude can explore the setting for the fictional town in the series, Spitsbergen, on a special five-night break added by Taber Holidays.
Fortitude smashed its way onto TV screens little over a fortnight ago and already has a legion of fans gripped by chilling events in the Arctic town. A strong international cast leads the 12-part series, which opened with a mysterious death that shocked residents of Fortitude to the core.
Although shot in Iceland, Fortitude is based upon the town of Longyearbyen in Spitsbergen, a magnificent and remote island in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard next to the North Pole. An intriguing destination, it is home to the mighty polar bear and although accessible, remains one of the most hostile places on earth.
Taber Holidays have added the brand new short break to Spitsbergen in a bid to capture an increased interest in the destination generated by Fortitude.
Guests on the 'Svalbard Winter Adventure' tour will stay in Longyearbyen and enjoy a full-day snowmobile expedition to Pyramiden – an unforgettable abandoned town, previously home to 1,500 inhabitants. Many of the settlement's buildings are still intact and guests are welcome to visit them and explore the empty streets before heading back.
Despite being one-and-a-half times the size of Denmark, Svalbard has only 45km of paved roads so snowmobile is the main method of transport, just like the town of Fortitude.
Also included is a dog sled safari to Bolterdalen. Reindeer and Arctic foxes are often seen on this particular tour, which follows the river surrounded by breathtaking mountains either side.
Guests will also have the opportunity to explore Longyearbyen at their own pace, with plenty of free time to relax and mix with the locals.
Prices start from £1,850pp and include return flights from London Heathrow to Longyearbyen, via Oslo, a night's stopover in Oslo outbound, four nights accommodation in Spitsbergen with breakfast, a full-day snowmobile expedition with lunch and a dog sled safari. Departs Tuesday and Thursday from 12 March to 14 May.
