Howard Blount runs Backroad Planet, a road trip, cruising, and rail travel website. He has traveled internationally since boyhood and lived abroad in Mexico, Chile, and Paraguay. Now his passion is navigating the roads and waters of this amazing planet in search of anything rare and remote.
Howard writes primarily for Backroad Planet, promoting the philosophy that taking scenic routes, scouting offbeat sites, stopping at roadside attractions, and immersion in local flavor are the best ways to travel. He has collaborated with countless brands and destinations such as Viking Cruises and VISIT FLORIDA. Howard enjoys participating in media trips and other forms of sponsored travel, and he welcomes opportunities to partner with travel brands, CVBs, DMOs, and tourism boards.
A former middle school teacher and educational author with major houses such as Simon & Schuster and McGraw-Hill, Howard's author papers now reside in the University of Southern Mississippi's de Grummond Children's Literature Collection.
Howard would much rather be doing anything that includes mountains, waterfalls, dachshunds, gospel choirs, books, classic movies, autumn, freshwater springs, rain and other gloomy weather, log cabins, abandoned sites, unearthed history, genealogy, museums, scenic and historical sites, castles, cathedrals, Civil War and Civil Rights locations, National Park Passports, quotes, anything Apple, all things British, and lists. On a random note, Howard is fourth cousin-once removed to Truman Capote.
